Do you like to sing? Would you like to learn some basic singing tricks that can help free your voice and build your range in a supportive learning environment? Taranaki Song Club offers group evening classes for beginners and more experienced singers in Taranaki, to help you grow your confidence, develop new musical skills and discover the joys of singing with like-minded people.

Physical - singing is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body, even when sitting.
Physiological - singing reduces stress levels through the action of the endocrine system which is linked to our sense of emotional well-being.
Psychological - when people sing together they attain an increased sense of community, belonging and shared endeavour.

Song club aims to bring back the joy and community that singing gives to our lives. Our courses are about having fun, feeling good and meeting new friends whilst engaging in an uplifting and inspiring activity. If you've ever lacked the courage to join a choir, audition for a musical or belt out a favourite karaoke tune for your friends, Song Club may be for you!
No need to be shy. The courses focus on singing as a group. It's about learning new songs, how the voice works and how you can use your voice in different ways. Plus, Song Club offers a variety of courses for beginners as well as people who are more experienced singers, to help you get the best out of your voice.
Singing for non-singers

This singing course is for absolute beginners or for those who love to sing but don't feel confident to join a choir or sing around others.
In this course you will learn breathing techniques to get the most out of your voice, information on how the vocal apparatus works, keys to understanding your vocal range and voice type, opportunities to learn some of the different effects we can use on our voice, as well as an introduction to harmony and round singing. The course is designed to be fun and pressure free with no need to feel nervous as everyone will sing together, no solos required! This is a chance to learn a new skill and make some new friends. Come along and take the first steps on your new and exciting musical journey.

This course follows on from the Beginners course. It's also good for people who have a little more confidence with their singing but would like to brush up on their skills. The course examines some of the different singing schools and techniques currently popular with singers and teachers (Bel Canto, Estill Model, etc). New repertoire will include looking at singing in four-part harmony, plus a short introduction to barbershop singing and technique. Further work will be done learning inspiring vocal warm-ups and breathing exercises you can incorporate into everyday life, plus information on vocal health that will keep your voice in tip-top shape for years to come.
Carol Club

This course is for all ages - young and old. It is about celebrating the great Christmas carol repetoire and all levels are welcome to join. We will learn a variety of new carols culminating in a Christmas concert for our family and friends. This is about putting the skills we have developed during the year to good use, and sending off 2017 in a tuneful, resonant and joyous style!
